Untuk mesin, tipe 2.4 L menggendong mesin 2GD FTV berkapasitas 2.393 cc yang bisa menyemburkan tenaga 149,6 PS dan 3.400 rpm. Torsi maksimumnya 40.8 kgm pada 1.600-2.000 rpm. Fitur pada Fortuner 2.4 L antara lain hill start assist, emergency brake signal, trailer sway control, traction control, hingga vehicle stability control.
Selanjutnya Fortuner 2.7 L mengusung mesin 2TR-FE berkapasitas 2.694 cc. Mesin itu bisa menyemburkan tenaga sebesar 163 PS pada 3.400 rpm dan torsi maksimum 24.7 kgm pada 4.000 rpm. Mobil ini mengusung bahan bakar bensin.
Terakhir, Fortuner 2.8 L mengusung mesin 1GD FTV dengan kapasitas silinder 2.755 cc. Mesin yang dipasangkan dengan transmisi otomatis tersebut bisa memuntahkan tenaga 163 PS pada 3.400 rpm dan torsi 50.9 kgm pada 1.600-2.800 rpm.
